Sarah Bong-Thakur, DDS
Dr. Sarah Bong-Thakur is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who separated from the Air Force in June 2019 after serving 12 years. As an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, she primarily performs surgical procedures including extraction of teeth, placement of implants, bone grafting, jaw surgery to correct skeletal and dental malocclusion, treatment of dental infections and various other surgical procedures. She is a board certified oral surgeon with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Bong was born in New York, New York. She graduated from East Brunswick High School in East Brunswick, New Jersey; and attended Rutgers University on an academic scholarship, graduating in 2002 with a major in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Bong graduated in 2007 from the University of Maryland College of Dentistry, and went straight to her first assignment at Langley AFB to complete a 1-year AEGD. Following her residency, she was a staff dentist at Osan AFB, Korea for 1 year with a follow on to Andrews AFB, MD for 2 years and was selected for Oral and Maxillofacial surgical training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX. Upon completion of her residency she was assigned to the 96th Dental Squadron, Eglin AFB, Eglin, FL.
While assigned at Eglin AFB, she mentored and taught 32 Advanced Education in General Dentistry-1 residents and earned Educator of the Year award for 2018 in the Air Force Materiel Command.
Dr. Sarah Bong-Thakur and her husband enjoy working out, movies, and outdoor activities. They have two cats.
