Meet Dr. Zachar

Education

Dr Michael ZacharDr. Zachar obtained his bachelor’s degree in science at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He then continued his education at the University of Iowa; obtaining his doctor of dental surgery degree.

During his dental education Dr. Zachar received the Academy of General Dentistry student of the year award, the Duane Schmidt practice management award and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry award.

Following his dental school training Dr. Zachar completed a one-year AEGD residency at Sheppard, AFB and obtained his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center. He has been published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In Dr Michael Zacharresidency he completed rotations in Anesthesia, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, General Surgery, Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Surgery among many other surgical specialties. Dr. Zachar was also trained extensively in dental extractions, dental and facial implants, trauma, orthognathic surgery as well as cosmetic facial surgery.

Specialty Courses & Positions Held

Dr. Zachar is an Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor. Dr. Zachar has attended numerous specialty courses throughout the United States to continue to improve his skills. Dr. Zachar served on active duty in the United States Air Force from 2007-2017. He was stationed at Sheppard, Lackland and the United States Air Force Academy. He separated as the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Director at the United States Air Force Academy and Associate Professor of Oral Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).

Personal

Dr. Zachar is married and has two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, pickleball and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.
